First Brick is the long awaited return of critically acclaimed emcee Rasheed Chappell. His debut LP “Future Before Nostalgia” was heralded as a classic by many in the indie Hip Hop scene. On First Brick Rasheed pairs once again with legendary producer Kenny Dope to provide the canvas for his vivid wordplay.

It’s been 7 years since Rasheed’s last release and First Brick serves as a reminder and reintroduction. It reminds those already familiar with Rasheed why he is held in such high regards by luminaries such as O.C., Lord Finesse, DJ Eclipse, DJ Scratch & DJ Clark Kent to name a few. It also serves as an introduction to those who may not be familiar with the work Rasheed had been putting down over the years.

Collaborating with the likes of Raheem DeVaughn, Apollo Brown, Diamond D and others has maintained his profile as an elite level rhyme sayer. First Brick provides an in-depth look into the mind and musings of Rasheed Chappell.

The title serves as a compass, leading the listener to the very beginnings of what made Rasheed the man he is. His crisp delivery and penchant for silver screen-esque lyricism is on full display on songs such as “101” and “ Shorty Rock Pt.1”.

The opening track “Breaking Ground” is a spoken word piece that informs the audience about the ride they’re about to embark on. All of life’s hardships and heroism are captured in his words. “Street Corner Shit” is a standout track that serves as an ode and cautionary tale to those that indulge in such recreation.

Unlike his debut LP, Rasheed isn’t the sole voice on this project. Enlisted are some of today’s truly exceptional rhyme spitters. CRIMEAPPLE and Daniel Son help paint a haunting picture on “Aiding & Abetting”. On the bar for bar banger “Kingsmen” Recognize Ali, Hus Kingpin, Napoleon Da Legend and Lil Fame of M.O.P. all pen precise poetic mayhem over a neck snapping Kenny Dope rhythm.

As the introduction of the album states, every building starts with a single break. As long as the foundation of Rasheed Chappell and Kenny Dope remain intact, expect nothing but good things.

lyrics

Verse 1

Black supremacist crack the Guinness spark the lye
Salute me when I enter my nigga
Hold ‘em up high
Survived cold wars and fiends with no teeth
Heroine and diabetes niggas with no feet
No sleep till the A.M.
Nigga we go hard
Money murder or mayhem
Niggas going at God
Don’t ever question you know what I’m about
Knocking niggas off
Knocking niggas out
And fuck around I’ll bleed y’all niggas
Ivan Drago Apollo Creed y’all niggas
And I’m a rep Mach till they free my nigga
And the heir to the crown
That’s me my nigga
Now say grace and break bread and let’s eat
I’m so evolved
I Marley Marl on break beats
No Juice Crew
No Biz Mark Kane
Valor suits rocking bismark chains
And I can hear the pain
In the veins of my niggas
So I’m a curse the world that made me a nigga
I’m no Messiah been inspired by the drug dealer
I know the science my alliance to the underworld
My slang alien
And floating on another world
It’s outta orbit
Flash Gordon when they press record
I go from Knowledge to Build
‘Fore I make it to Born
And for these dollars we kill
Nigga that’s on the normClouds form storms coming
I predict a drought
Go head and breathe it in
And let me blow this out

Verse 2

He nocturnal
Eyes bleeding from the sess a mill
Tired of these nickels and dimes
He tryna touch a Mil
Now the plot thickens
And he spot victims
Soon as niggas come out the spot
He HA stick’em
With no mask
No common sense
Just a fool nigga
Ignoring the consequence
Cause he got a seed
And a baby moms
At his moms crib
And it won’t be long
Before the words out
And then the word spreadsEvery single dollar he took
Is on his head
He want to live it up
Eat smoke drink it up
Even in his wildest dreams
He couldn’t think this up
You know when karma come
And them lamas come
Anybody caught in its path
They won’t pardon ‘em
And two shots rocked the doors off the hinges
Baby in the bassinet
Mom’s in the kitchen
Shells penetrate
Exit out and they ricochet
Holes in everybody
Left blood on the dinner plates
Now we light a candle
Sad example
Of what a fake nigga can’t and a real nigga can do

And that’s real...101
